What is Plarn and How Can I Join the Revolution?

Plarn is an awesome way to help keep the earth green while delving into our crafty juices and creating usable items out of what might have been thrown away. Plarn is created from plastic bags, and/ or VCR and Cassette tape. Unravel a VCR and a cassestte tape and the plastic ribbon jumps out as a prepackaged and knitable material. A plastic bag is a little more complicated but easily transformed product ready to be rolled up into ready to knit plarn. Check out this way cool link on the how to: How To Make Plarn.

The idea is: After you have made up your bag or usable item take it to a location that sells reusable bags like Target or Bartell Drugs and nonchalently drop it off on the rack next to the other bags making sure that the tag / label (noted below) is clearly seen. Don't forget to take a picture of your bag and the location (or just name the location) where you dropped it off and email the picture to knitrevolution@gmail.com with a number not already noted in the slide show so we will easily be able to reference it later. These pictures will be posted so we can regularly shuffle through all the entries and oggle over how fabulous our ideas are. Hopefully someone will come by, be captured by the awesomeness of it, snag it, use it, and email us about it.

In a bit I will have premade labels you can download, print out, and attach, iron on, or what ever but for now mark your fancy creation with a label that says "Free" in big bold writting and includes a number not already posted, this site address, the email address knitrevolution@gmail.com, and instructions to the special grabber to email where they picked up the bag, why they liked it, and where they have used it and plan on using it. And then including something along the lines of "tell all your friends about our sweet site and join the Knit Revolution" would rock.

As more people send in their pics I will keep a running map of where Bags have been made and dropped off, and where they have gone to. This can become a fabulous way to bring us knitters, crocheters, and sewers together to do something really great for the world!

I like this idea! As soon as Relay For Life is over I'll look into making a grocery bag! And I'll keep you posted...
